Shirley Melton Johnson Memorial Scholarship $3000

The Shirley Melton Johnson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 to honor the wife of United States Congressman, Sam Johnson.

Shirley Melton Johnson was the epitome of strength, grace, and unwavering faithfulness throughout her life and sixty-five years of marriage.

The Republican Women of Greater North Texas award the $3000 scholarship annually based on their established criteria.

The number of scholarships to be awarded will be decided by the RWGNT Board of Directors based on available funds each year.

Scholarship applicants must be a United States citizen who resides within US Congressional District 3.

Scholarship Criteria

Scholarship Criteria: DEADLINE 03/31/2026

Must be a female, high school senior pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
Must have completed a minimum of 75 community service hours during her four years of high school.
Must have maintained a 3.0 GPA or better during her four years in high school, on a 4.0 scale.

A complete application must include the following:

Official application form.

Three letters of recommendation. At least one of these letters must be from a current or former teacher and/or Guidance Counselor. The remaining two recommendations must be from non-family members.

An official transcript from current school.

A typed essay of a minimum of 350 words but not to exceed 500 words.
